Android 2.0 coming to Google smartphones

Google Android Version 1.5  codenamed 'cupcake' is just starting to be pushed to Tmobiles smartphones in the US.

Now, Google has introduced a demo of Android 2.0 codenamed 'donut'.

The new version of the OS includes some really neat features such as handwriting gestures and text to speech.  The search has also been upgraded to combine internet and local searches for calendars, contacts and music.  Presently the plans are for only gphones to be loaded with Android 2.0, however Android laptops will certainly be soon to follow.

It looks like Samsung and HTC will be the first to offer Android 2.0' donut'.  The Samsung I7500 has a 'Bigfoot sibling' which may be the first to get the new OS.  The HTC Hero has also been rumoured to be offered preloaded with Android 2.0.
